This vital role within the Guitar Center family is responsible for the development and execution of category sales strategy that supports the company's planning, financial, product, inventory and replenishment objectives. You will lead the channel framework to plan top line sales, margin and inventory. Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to the following: Monitors system performance and work with IT group to improve data quality and develop and handle replenishment, allocation, and forecasting staff. Plan, manage, and oversee inventory management strategy between forecasting, allocation, and replenishment functions in support of agreed upon merchandising strategies across all business channels. Maintain adequate in-stock/service levels for all category assortments while achieving various metric goals. Re-forecast sales, receipts, and inventory on an ongoing basis via the open-to-buy (OTB) process and communicate these actions to Senior Management on a monthly basis. Develop annual merchandise plans in collaboration with merchant partners to support agreed upon merchandising strategies, effectively achieve company sales, margins, and inventory turnover goals. Determine store group assignment, opening order quantities, forecasting strategies, and initial order timing for all merchant initiated new items. Provide guidance to merchant team via assortment rationalization for proposed assortment transitions to ensure items within the assortment have relevance and avoid potential duplication within the assortment. Develop exit/transition strategies in conjunction with merchant/inventory management teams; coordinate and communicate same to all members of the inventory management team. Provide ongoing analysis of macro level business trends at the category level; develop and recommend action plans to capitalize on identified opportunities and minimize liabilities. Regularly communicate business strategies, progress, results, and action plans to inventory management team, merchant partners, Director of Inventory Management, and vendor partners. Create ad-hoc reporting as necessary to supplement existing company provided reports. Review/analyze inventory on an ongoing basis; identify potential ownership/margin concerns with inactive inventory and recommend action(s) to effectively and profitably liquidate same. Complete assortment reviews with merchants and inventory management team. Ensure agreed upon assortment changes are executed in a timely manner, and store groups reflect current sales trends. Track sales performance on new items relative to established expectations. Recommend action if necessary to capitalize on fast sellers and minimize liability on slow sellers.
